The Carousel Capital of the World, the Parlor City and the Valley of Opportunity – all of these nicknames apply when you're discussing Binghamton, New York. This upstate New York city is found at the meeting point of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers. It is the head of Broome County and the center point of the Greater Binghamton Metropolitan Area.

What characterizes Binghamton, NY? Architecturally speaking, the city has lots of Romanesque Revival Architecture, especially around the downtown area. That along with the many extravagant mansions has given the city the nickname of the Parlor City. The Carousel Capital of America is easily explained since Binghamton is one of the few places in the world that has antique carousels. This city has six of 150 carousels left in the world.

Some of the most exciting Binghamton events include the Rod Serling Video Fest as well as the Spiedie Fest (a sandwich known throughout this region) and the Balloon Rally. First Fridays is an arts tour, while First Night is a New Year's celebration. There are also numerous touring events like Confluence: A Tale of Two Rivers in the summer and Jazz Jams on the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage.

Some of the most popular historical attractions in the city are the Roberson Museum, the Kopernik Space Center, and the Ross Park Zoo, which is one of the oldest zoos in the U.S. There are dozens of Binghamton restaurants in the area, serving a variety of dishes including seafood, steak, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian and Greek delicacies.
